This brief but informative presentation details the maximum short-circuit withstand capabilities of copper THHN versus AA-8030 XHHW-2 conductors for 1 cycle, and AA-8030 THHN versus AA-8030 XHHW-2 Conductors for 1 Cycle. The calculations are based on electrically equivalent conductor sizes. The results demonstrate that Thermoset (XHHW-2) insulation provides superior short-circuit ratings than Thermoplastic (THHN) insulation.
