Alcan Cable launched its 70th Utility Purchasing Management Group (UPMG) participation with a “Night at the Smithsonian”. A private dinner event was held after hours at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History in Washington, DC on September 20th, 2009. The evening began with a tour of the newest Smithsonian exhibit, “Ocean Hall”. Dinner was held in the “Rotunda Hall” and the event was closed with dessert in the “The Janet Annenberg Hooker Hall of Geology, Gems, and Minerals” where the Hope Diamond and Harry Winston collection were on full display for the guests’ private viewing. Docents were available for each venue and were on hand to provide expert detail and information. Ian Hewett, President of Alcan Cable, briefed customers on the recent change of ownership from Rio Tinto to Platinum Equity and expressed his appreciation for our customers’ continued support through the transition. “This event is a way to express our appreciation for the business and relationships our strategic customers bring to us in the Investor Owned Utility and Public Power Markets,” stated Steve Waller, Director of North American Utility Sales.
